Monte wants to know why there have been no updates for almost a month!
As I write this, the big kittens are actually approaching ten weeks, and Catbert and Cowbert nine. They sure grow fast! My inlaws have been visiting, one of our chickens hatched some chicks (!!!) and the inlaw visit was preceded by some pretty comprehensive decluttering and cleaning to make room for them.
27 to 30 Days old (20-23 for the ‘berts)
Last I posted about the kittens, they were pretty much going like this:
The kittens were very excited to explore the library, outside of their box! Pampi was at LEAST as excited!
30 and 23 Days Old
Claire is disappointed it’s taken so long to show how cute she is. I can’t tell is this is a soulful or reproachful gaze. At just over 4 weeks she is awfully adorable.
Pampi continues to be a big support in raising the cuties. They’re starting to be interested in real food, and Minnie pays close attention to Pampi teaching her about food.
31 and 24 Days old
Monte and Cowbert at 31 and 24 days old are terribly cute cuddlers. These baby beds sure get a lot of use!
Catbert is a cuddly and frisky boy, too. The youngest always try to catch up and be like the big guys, and Catbert and Cowbert are no exceptions. Here he is, trying to play with and join the kitten pile. I love how roly poly he still is!
Minnie ALWAYS seems to know when she should pose at the camera. The kittens are all starting to hang out, outside of the box!
Did I mention how helpful Pampi is? He is SUPER excited with floor kittens!
This happens to me more often than I can tell you. Actually, it’s pretty close to my situation as I type this entry!
Possibly the best thing about Day 31? Potty training! They took to it SO FAST! I’m the meanest kitty-mom in the world, posting potty pics of my babies on the internet! How embarrassing!
32 and 25 Days Old
Cowbert is trying very hard to win the internet. He does this by looking like THIS at 25 days old.
Catbert thinks he’s got a chance of winning the internet too!
Now that they’re out of the boxes, they get to choose where they want to rest and sleep. And this started the beginning of the ridiculous habit of … overcrowding a tiny bed, even when there are other beds available.
You can’t quite tell how ridiculous it is, in a photo. So there’s a video, too.
Did I mention that Cowbert wants to own the internet, and he wants to own YOU! He will fall asleep in bizarre positions to do so!
The other great thing about kittens growing – the start of weaning to cat food! Monte was very into gushy food early on!
Minnie has the most fantastic mask markings!
Oh look, I’m completely kitten-infested at this point again!
Nanuk thinks maybe HE could win the internet, if he tried.
Infested, infested, infested… there’s gotta be a cure for this.
With the kittens out and about, feeding time is nuts! They’re all climbing all over me when I’m trying to feed any of them. I’m very lucky to have such a great husband who will help whenever he can!
33 and 26 Days Old
This is a combo picture – Cowbert overexpressing himself while IN a ridiculous kitten pile!
Kitties like sunbeams, and Minnie is no exception!
Okay – this is the picture that convinced me that Cowbert will truly achieve whatever he sets out to do. He WILL win the internet. Look at that FACE!
This stage really does crack me up. It lasts for weeks. It’s kitten pile time!
They squirm in their ridiculous pile, too!
No, really, it’s a melty pile of kittens!
This is maybe the funniest in this series. The proof that the OTHER beds (whichever those are at any given time) are not NEARLY as good as the full one!
And for the record, they aren’t ALL *always* sleepy … sometimes it’s about half and half.
This is a relatively common theme. Someone’s awake while everyone else is asleep, and wants to FRISK! Aurora was all frisky, then climbed me for attention.
34 and 27 Days Old
Silly pile o kittens!
How many can you spot and identify?
Would a different angle help?
I should mention, I was raising these kittens while going to school. Monte was trying to help me with my studying. I took this picture in case I had to prove that the kitten ate my homework!
35 and 28 Days Old
Minnie would like everyone to know that she is cute from virtually ALL angles. She has BELLY DOTS OF DOOM! Claire is an expert cuddler.
Nanuk, also, is an expert cuddler!
Monte and Minnie, rassling. I love how Minnie just has her mouth wide open, in case something ventures into it and she can CHOMP it!
36 and 29 days old
Halloween kitten! Actually, just Monte meeting Suki yet again.
This was pretty funny. Watch for the chain reaction hissy-fit in the first few seconds. Poor Suki! She just wants to be buddies!
They’re SUCH brave kittens!
Minnie and Aurora were hilarious trying to drag David off by his shoelace!
This was SO funny while it was happening, and she was trying for a long time, so I managed to get video. It’s like Minnie wanted to haul him off to her cave to eat him all winter long!
My seriously fantastic vet made a house call to examine Aurora and Nanuk after their seizures and give me anti-seizure meds. I adore her in a way that words will never express. I think it’s hilarious that this is a photo of Aurora’s first vet visit. That’s the vet’s shoe. Neither kitten has had a relapse, nor have they had any of the medicine. Phew!
37 and 30 days old
Kodiak and Minnie, cuddling in my lap. I might as well admit it now, the name Kodiak never really “took.” He was Fatty McFatterson, Fatty for short, for a long while because, well, it fit. And then my inlaws came, and he was getting into mischief, and my brother-in-law dubbed him Dennis (as in, the menace) and kept calling him that, and now he’s really quite Dennisish!
They no longer live in the box, but it’s still sitting on the couch at this point. They still mostly gravitate that way, but don’t get back in. They love hanging out with the people
…unless Pampi is in the box. Which he often is. He loves the box. And he loves the babies, and they love him. They’ll follow him back into the box.
How cute is Monte with Pampi, I mean really?
Pampi loves to chase and play with them, too. Nanuk loves running around with him!
Bebe, our Sphynx, hates kittens. But she LOVES gushy food, which the kittens get regularly during weaning. Ah, the conflict. She comes around growling and acting all tough. Eventually it stops bothering the kittens, and they start trying to play with her twitchy tail.
38 and 31 days old
This isn’t a great pic of Catbert, but I wanted a picture that shows off the seams of his tuxedo!!! His arms have SEAMS!
This cracked me up – Nanuk was passed OUT next to me.
Did you forget about Cowbert? That’s his plan … just when you think it’s safe to get on the internet again, POW! There he is, being all CUTE n stuff!
Dennis (Kodiak) is pretty cute, too. He was totally a generic kitten for a while. He’d eat (like crazy) and then pass out. And pee and poo. It was hard to find his personality. They at about week 5, he got a memo that he’s a KITTEN and he’s been seriously awesome and adorable ever since! He is brimming with personality now
Catbert’s still pretty little and cute!
Pampi and Kiwi really do love the big cat tree. Kiwi is a little TOO big for the cubby hole. She, um, extends past its limits.
This shot looks so weird! Pampi on the top, and all you can see is Kiwi oozing out the bottom hole! Goofy kitties!
Catbert aspires to greatness. He’s pretty much there!
Our stripey babies, Minnie and Dennis (Kodiak)!
Pampi is the best mama kitty around, even though he isn’t, of course, a mama cat. They LOVE him, and he’s SO excited to have them be more playsized!
39 and 32 Days Old
They are all such snuggle bunnies! Claire and Nanuk, snuggling. You can almost see, here, how she’s actually a black tabby. She has stripes in her black fur!
It was so funny to see where they’d hide out, the first week they were out of the box. I found Dennis (Kodiak) curled up under a couch pillow.
40 and 33 Days Old
Nanuk shows his fierce teeth! Actually, he’s just yawning 😉
Kitten pile!!!!!!!!!
Kiwi is actually really glad the kittens are out, so she can properly cuddle them too.
41 and 34 Days Old
Cowbert would like it if you don’t forget how cute and snuggly he is. David will help demonstrate this.
Seriously – how cute?
David really does like having kittens. Can you tell? They’re so cute!
Dennis! So sweet and cute! And this is before his big ears were delivered. Watch this space in a later blog entry to see what I mean – OMG the EARS!
Okay, they tried to drag me off, too! Fierce kittens!
Okay, this cracked me up. I had someone here helping me clean, and didn’t want the kittens underfoot, so I put them all in their box, which they can ALL climb out of, and put the box in a bathroom, along with a litter box and food and water. I checked on them a few times, and they got out, used the litter box, wandered around a bit. But when I came back in, they were like this. When I moved the box back to the library (where the kittens have been living) they stayed in the box like this for a long time before getting out.
43 and 36 Days Old
They still weren’t all eating solids at this point, and they sure get EAGER for their food, so it was REALLY great that my wonderful husband Aidon is still willing to help out when needed, phew!
Phew – long entry – nap time! I hope you enjoyed the update! I’m going to try to catch up before another months slides past me again!
i sure wished i lived closer so i could get my snuggles on with these beauties
love love love the updates and the photos!
You have done a great job raising these lil dudes, journaling their lives and personalities, making me miss my Lily (black gal who passed 6 mos ago at 18 years of age).
Nanookerdoodle needs to come live with me. Good thing he’s all ready spoken for. *sigh*
